Monsters In The Closet!

Upon opening my boys' closet door I felt that since of "Are you kidding me?!" How is it that three little boys could have such a messy closet without a glimpse of guilt in their impish little eyes? Who comes in here and tears this tiny place apart like a refugee camp that was abandoned in the middle of the night? I gave up trying to catch the beast or beasts, in the act, many moons ago.

Don't get me wrong though, I have had the boys come into the closet to help me clean this disaster time and again, but it doesn't bring out the most tender motherly side of me, and so I try to resist the urge to trap the boys inside the torturous closet with me, while making them listen to the repeated statements of, "This is ridiculous!", "Am I raising a bunch of pigs?!", or "How can you find anything in here!".

Now this first photo really doesn't do the closet and it's complete disaster justice. It was breathtaking in the most lung gasping uncomfortable way. I didn't even have enough air left over to holler at the boys again. Instead I dove into the scene head first, grumbling about my lot as a mother of three disturbed piglets. However, I'm pretty certain that Boaz is not quite part of this party yet, but I might as well be irritated with him because I'm sure he will join the heinous tribe soon enough. Yes, I believe in guilt by association! What is wrong with this photo? Well as you can see there is not ONE shoe that matches the other. Not one! Sadly, even after the overhaul I was not able to find a single match. The happenings of baby shoes in this house is part of the Bermuda Triangle theory.

Boaz has these little plastic drawers in the closet. His clothes are tiny and are able to fit nice and neat in these little bins. Nice and neat are the two key words I would like to stress!!

While sitting on the floor folding baby clothes and removing plastic hangers from underneath by behind I saw this little saying of wisdom. I actually laughed out loud when I read it. I thought it couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. At first I thought is this the Lord trying to remind me of something, but then.....................

I saw the lidless marker that was remaining on the shelf that must have been used to write this heavenly little saying. *rolling eyes* God doesn't have that kind of humor, I'm pretty sure!

This tiny closet has three little bars to hold Abram, Roman, and Boaz's clothes. Here is Roman's little section. We strategically put his up high because he loves to change his shirts all the live long day. This makes it a little more challenging and hopefully less tempting. (I'm sure wondering, "How's that working for me?" ;P ) I love when the shops give me the hangers that the clothes come on; it is cheaper and quicker to put them away once we get the clothes home.

The other side of the closet is Abram's and Boaz's. Bo's are on the top since he is too small to get his clothes. Abram's are on the bottom so he can dress himself, and put his own clothes up after laundering. As you can see he may need to work on this skill! lol

Voila! Here is the closet back to its former self, in all its glory! Seriously though, this closet is a weekly disaster/chore for us. However, I must admit that the closet is a perfect fit for our large crew of boys. It has two large built in shelves at each end for sweatshirts, shoes, and clothes that don't get worn daily. I am very thankful for this special little space in my house.

Ps: I love the John Mayer song. Thanks for sharing it.

I KNOW how you feel. I will organize until I'm blue in the face, and within a couple days, it looks like a tornado came through my kids' rooms. And just so you know, even girls do this :P That was pretty funny that they thought to write down that saying on the package of diapers, HEHE. Smart boys! The closet looked very nice after it was all said and done.

I think we all have this problem with kids rooms and closets. And all 4 of my girls are worse than the 2 boys.Even the big girls.

Whew what a chore for you to do. I go crazy when things get out of place. So it is really bad right now. Maybe someday things will get put back in place for me.
You should come and do all my closets for me......

The dreaded closet. I can't imagine what you go through with all your boys. Andy is enough for me. In fact, I have informed him that in our new house he isn't allowed to use the closet in his room. It is the ultimate organizational space. An entire wall of shelves, drawers, and cubbies. Right outside his bedroom door is a small closet for him with one rod and shelf. We'll see how this works out.

It must be closet cleaning season....I just cleaned out that mess of a closet I showed you the other day under the stairs. It feels good to have it done!

Hey, that's how I feel sometimes. Everytime we get company all the kids terrorize the bedroom. Every toy that they have and one's I didn't even know they had end up on the floor. And sometimes to contents of the clothes drawers. arggggg. Then guess where the kids are? Yes making lots of noise inbetween us visiting. Ha ha.

Haven't you ever heard the poem Mr. Nobody? Here is how it goes:

I know a funny little man,
As quit as a mouse,
Who does the mischief that is done
In everybody's house!
There's no one ever sees his face,
And yet we all agree
That every plate we break was cracked
By Mr. Nobody

`Tis he who always tears our books,
Who leaves the door ajar,
He pulls the buttons from our shirts,
And scatters pine afar;
That squeaking door will always squeak,
For, prithee, don't you see,
We leave the oiling to be done
By Mr. Nobody

The finger marked upon the door
By none of us are made;
We never leave the blind unclosed,
To let the curtains fade.
The ink we never spill; the boots
That lying round you. See
Are not our boots they all belong
To Mr. Nobody.

As for not finding any matches to the shoes, that is natural, haven't you learned that once you get the shoes one of them runs off and hides, while the other is left behind to count to 100,000 and then try to find the other? The shoe left behind a lot of the time gets put back into the shoe box while trying to find the hidden shoes, so it has to start over with searching!

I had to laugh at the "this is ridiculous" "how do you find anything in here" ha! Great post! Glad you are back...I enjoyed the chuckle!!

This really cracked me up. This is how the girls room looked until I overhauled it when the guys were hunting. Well, to be honest, the girls room was MUCH worse. We hauled out 6 big bags of clothes! Yikes!!

And all I keep thinking is..."Wow, I wish I had a closet like that!" haha! The finished outcome is great. :)

So what would you charge to come do that little organization thing for my closets...and umm the rest of the house? LOL :)

I love the closet, I tried to do somewhat the same thing, but we couldn't ever keep it up like yours is. Underneath all of the discarded clothes, shoes, coats, etc. there is really some neat tries at organization. Sigh. Someday....

Somehow I missed your halloween party post. Looks like you did a great job! I'm sure the kids loved it. Those cupcakes are so cool! Very creative.

I'm glad you've been having so much visiting brethren, and I love it when I get to be there. It looks like the Halloween party was a big success. Good for you! The little suckers decorated as ghosts were my favorite, I have to say! As for the closet - I'm glad you clarified that the pictures don't do justice, because I was thinking "You call that bad? Huh! You should see the closet that 2 little girls and 1 big girl shares!" Ages 12, 6, and 5. It's horrible! All over the closet floor are clothes that are supposed to be hanging, shoes that are supposed to be in boxes, dirty clothes that are supposed to be in hampers, and various other items. Those are just the main ones. The rods (two of them) have some dresses/blouses hanging, while some are half hanging. Or doubled up on a hanger with the others. Sigh. I'm glad it's not my bedroom, that's all I have to say. In the unmotivated mood I've been in, I probably wouldn't be doing much about it, and I don't want THAT closet to be MINE!!! I know what you mean about the weekly disaster! I often think of the Wizard of Oz and think that if somebody disappeared, it probably wouldn't be to Oz, but simply under the piles of clothes/shoes/toys/everything-else. And actually, that is a lie. I don't often think of that. It was something that just popped into my head at this second, as TORNADO!!! flew across my mind.

BTW, I also posted.

P.S. The poem Kali copied is one that I recited for our homeschool group a couple of years ago. I need to re-memorize it, because I always think of it when I'm listening to mothers talk about the disasters their children create.
