Out And About

Abram found Roman a book that you push the buttons and they make sounds. This worked like a charm, thankfully.

Sidenote: Geeesh I could NOT sleep last night. My mind would not shut down and just rest. Talk about tiring...If I wasn't already IN bed I would have gone to bed.

We had a wonderful meeting last night. To be honest, it was much better than I had expected. The day began on a very different note, so I guess I sort of expected it to end on the same one....ya know, sort of flaaaaat.

I woke up Roman from a nap, prematurely (what do they say about NEVER waking a sleeping baby?), so we could all run to Barnes and Noble. I was craving a little orange mocha, and thought it would be a good excuse to take all five boys out too. So we got the little man up, dressed, and then moved the herd out to the vehicle to head for the store. When we arrived at Barnes and Noble we went into the Starbucks section first. The six of us eyed the goodies behind the glass so long, trying to make our choices, that we had to keep signaling the other people to go ahead of us. You would have thought we were at the Geneva Convention with how long it took to decide on which cookie each one wanted. Eventually, we made it to the actual register and the ordering began. Of course, Roman was trying his triple sow cow stunts in my arms while the cookies were being shoved across the counter to me. Plus, you would have wondered if we were all wearing matching uniforms with all the looks we were getting. Hello....we are just a little family, craving a little something sweet...don't stare, just throw money people, support the Starbucks Family Fund...

I then gave the boys their mission. Each one had to find six books that they were willing to read this summer. I brought a clipboard so that the titles and authors of each book could be listed under their name. You see Den and I discussed it one night, and came up with some sense of organization and accountability for each boy. Hoping to inspire the love of reading for fun. So as the boys dispersed I took off for the safest place in the store that would endure an already weary mom that was sipping her hot delicious orange mocha (my saving grace); the children's section.

So, every once in a while, one boy would come back with a few books in hand, explain to me why he thought he may enjoy the books, and then jotted them down on the clipboard. This all sounded genius at the time, but as the minutes were ticking by I began to feel like we had been there for an eternity. For you see, Roman was testing boundaries, mentally and physically. He is normally pretty mild mannered, but not today, of course.

Eventually, we made our way out of the store only to rush home to get around for church. So as you can well understand I didn't expect meeting to be super grand. After all, I woke up the 17 month old early, and was now paying the piper.

However, church was nice. One of the most beautiful things about our size of assembly is that everyone prays for the other. You hear the sweetest words about your family going towards the Heavens, and it melts your heart. You begin to feel so much love, and you want to give back as well. Everyone prayed and the testimonies were touching too. River even joined in, and conducted the dismissal prayer.

I thought about how easy it would have been to have stayed home with my Georgie Porgie Pudding Pie, but I would have missed out. It was a great note to end the evening on. Then when church was over, we all said our goodbyes. Den and I dropped off the boys at the house, and we headed back to Barnes and Noble, for a bit. After all, I was so busy earlier that I didn't get a chance to look at any of the books that I had been longing to flip through....and ohhh....another round of orange mochas was had by both....hehehe
