Top Secret Inventions

Okay, seriously, I am cracking up at the genius of it all. You see, Abram came home from school with a letter asking.....no....telling.... the children that they had to come up with a new invention idea this weekend. It had to explain how the idea works, who would need it, and then the grand finale' is that we, the parents, have to make a prototype. I was like...."WHAT?"

I mean I think I have some pretty great ideas on how to improve the world, or at least on how to make a mom's life easier, but I haven't even gone to all that trouble for myself. I mean, one of my ideas could bring home a little bit of money, after all, or could change the way we live as a family (okay I may be a bit optimistic, but go with me). So why would I give that idea away, explain why it is valuable, and then make a prototype for them to visualize. Now I realize that they are asking my son to do this, and not me, per say, however the letter did make it quite clear to get the parents involved. I thought this is genius....I mean if they can get big money making ideas brought in by an innocent 4th grader and below, before it's patented, then its a win-win situation, right? hahaha Okay, that comes off cynical, but I have to admit that I was thinking those thoughts.

However, realizing that I will probably not put any of my inventive genius ideas on paper I decided to let my son look like the next "Benjamin Franklin" by letting him share with the world one of my brainstorms....(Again, insert tongue in cheek here) hehehe So I divulged one of my phenomenal ideas with Abram, however I wasn't even able to get past the first two sentences of my grand scheme before I lost him. He was bored to tears and began to speak excitedly over me. So I thought alright...alright...let me hear him out; I mean the letter that was sent home from school said that most GREAT inventions come from children nine years and under.....Therefore I waited with bated breath to hear all about my little "Thomas Edison's" idea.

He said, "What we should do is find a stick from outside, (okay okay he had my attention)....and find a sponge. Do we have one of those, Mom?"

"No....but continue." I replied

"And tape it to the top of the stick....tape it really good, MOM."

" Okay, and then what?"

" Well then you can use it to wash things in high places."

I began to giggle.

I said, "Abram...I don't know, honey."

He responded with, "Mom it really should be MY idea, and I want it to be something that I'm proud of."

That is when I smiled and said, "Okey dokey!"

So....I'm pretty sure that we don't have a whole lot to worry about when it comes to our multi-million inventive ideas being stolen....ROFL

Lol that is so funny! I remember my mom doing that to me when i was in school. Sometimes i would take her up on her creative ideas and other times i just came up with something silly on my own. Oh how i wish i would have listened to her...

I love it! I have to say that when I give projects like this to be completed at home, I am always so excited to see what they come up with and the kids are always excited too. Now, go get your stick, sponge and tape! ha!

How funny! I also got a kick out of your previous post. We just got a new locking mailbox and I have the keys hanging in a "special" place. I normally keep all my keys on my key ring but thought I would be okay to keep the mailbox one seperate. On second thought and after reading your post, I will be putting it with my other keys.

What, you don't think that'll sell? LOL! We've had our ideas, too. My paternal grandmother actually patented some of her small inventions, I think, but I'm not sure. I do know that she went about trying to get a children's toy patented, a long sturdy stick with a few long ribbons attached to the end. They told her it wouldn't sell, or some such thing, and didn't let her patent it (or maybe they just made it hard for her, so she didn't). The neighbor kids really loved playing with it. Well, years and years later, in fact, just a few years ago, Grandma sent us Christmas money, and we went to Toys'R'Us. Bethany finds this really, really cool thing. Guess what it was? Yep! Grandma's Christmas money was spent on her stolen invention! Of course, while mildly irritated, we were mostly amused. Very ironic.

That is so funny. It would be interesting to go to school the day that all the 2nd graders show up with their "inventions". I'm glad he came up with a plan he could be proud of! :D
