Working For Your Family

There is so much duty and beauty in motherhood. The mother should set the tone for the day for her family. It is diffcult to always remember this, especially when someone has been sick for a spell. However, it is at that very juncture that the mom should stay focused on her motherly duties.

There is nothing like something cooking, either in the oven or the crockpot. This is something our house has lacked for a quite a while now, since I have been battling morning sickness. However, it is something that this house has suffered from. These boys should anticipate what they are working for; a good home cooked meal. There is something about the aroma of something cooking, or baking, in the cool house of autumn that sets the tone for the entire day. I remember my mom making homemade bread when I was a girl and I felt like my mom must be happy to have taken the time to do this for us. Her happiness sprinkled over to my happiness. I loved seeing her homemade noodles laying across the flour doused counters waiting to dry for the perfect amount of time, so that they could be added to the broth for her divine chicken and noodle soup. It was the best, and I have missed that memory.

Having the whir of a washing machine going, hymns playing softly in the background, food stewing on the stove are all good things to start a day with. They are good memories for your children to remember too. They should see how a good home is ran. I need to be better. I have my days, but they have been in the distant past since my morning sickness had crept in.

Today I started with a little humble prayer that God would help me to not be slothful today. I have so many things I need to work on right now. There are some shifts that need to take place to get us back on course. My labor should never be done, and I should find peace and joy in laboring for those I love.

Thank you, Trina. That is just the reminder I needed today. We have been missing so many meals( real meals) due to the boys' soccer schedules. I will try to make the best of things for the next few weeks until schedules slow down. I love autumn and want my boys to be able to take a breath and enjoy the blessings God gives us , and this wonderful season. I am now in the mood to bake while the boys finish schoolwork :)

You make me want to get up and bake! It really is important that the mother sets the tone for the whole house. It's amazing how much influence the mother has on the whole mood of the house. This was a good reminder for me. So many days I just want to go back to bed; but I don't want my children to learn laziness from me. I don't have your excuse either! Don't worry you'll get over this sickness faze and life will get back to normal. Remember, you DO have a good excuse!

I've been trying so hard to set the mood. With starting back into school right after our hunting trip it has been serious work to keep on top of my job, but you are right, it is so important. And I don't have morning sickness. I'm afraid that when I do I'm not so good with the mood thing, or anything else for that matter. Good for you, you'll be blessed for it.

Amen,Trina. It's hard to remember, because 'life' happens. A lot of ladies (and along with that-their families) will be blessed by this post!

Hi Trina, thanks so much for this post. I work full-time, but that is no excuse. I can still have something cooking in the crock pot or something. I agree Mom sets the tone for the house and I needed to be reminded of that.

You are so right!! There are some days when I wake up ready to get things done and sadly other days that I don't...Thanks for the reminder!!
So happy to hear that smells can be brewing in your house all day because that means you are starting to feel better!!

I just caught up on your posts from while I was gone. Very touched by the graveyard one. I don't want my kids to get confused over the important things either. Very touching.

I know exactly what memories you are talking about Sis, with something cooking, low hymns playing on the stereo and the washer humming.

Mom set a good example of good days like those, and as her girls, we can't help but feel good, when we do them too. When I have extra spending money, I try to find new southern gospels, just because of that.

Wonderful post.
Hope you feel better soon, but even if you're not feeling up to it yet, take the time to rest and take care of yourself.

Wow! That made me want to go cook something really good (almost! ha!) There is nothing like smelling a good, homecooked meal in the oven or crockpot all day!!

Hope the little guy is feeling better!

Hi Trina! I read the post about you having trouble getting into some blogs and I want to tell you that you can now have access to my blog over at homeschoolblogger if you want to. I had my RSS feed on, but my settings were set so only registered users could view my blog, and I changed that today! So if you're interested in getting to know a mom with 6 kids, 5 of them girls, then mosie on over to my blog! And don't forget to follow the link to my husband's music, it's really beautiful!

And when you do find me over at HSB, leave me a comment! It's homeschoolblogger.com/stillgrowing.

Hope to see you soon! Leanne in Longview WA
