Mission UnAccomplished

Okay so here is the latest update. We got NOTHING accomplished....*blushing*. I guess it took all my energy to live out my Scarlett O'Hara moment, because that night when I went to bed I got sick. We just haven't been able to lick this stupid bug yet. We have had it go round and round the seven of us, and now I am on my second helping. Ugghh... So anyhoo, just the basics have been maintained and no huge mind blowing results as of yet.

Regardless of sickness though, I had certain obligations this morning. One of them was making cupcakes for a birthday gathering this afternoon. So I drank my morning hot tea trying to open my sore and tight throat, with the hopes of mustering up more energy. I was sitting in the recliner watching the hub bub of activity, when I decided I had better get started on these cupcakes. Now I don't know what it is with kids and cupcakes, but it must sound a silent whistle, you know the kind that only dogs hear, because these boys all started gathering around the kitchen. (Like vulchers waiting for their prey to die.)The typical questions began, "Can I lick the bowl?" "Can I have a beater?" "How many can we have?" I laughed and said, "Well let me finish mixing this up, then we will decide." Now if I had been smart, I would have delegated this immeditaely so that they would have been on their way. Instead they all hung out, sitting on chairs, opening cupboards to get plates, you would have thought that these kids hadn't had anything sweet to eat since Halloween. Suffice it to say we got them baked, frosted and sprinkled. I placed them carefully in a container so that my girlfriend could pick them up. Every precious cupcake was looked at longingly and with remorse as the container was being filled. For every cupcake that landed in that container was one less for them. I found this very humorous. Even Roman who is 3 months old was held above the fray took look on during the careful placement of these cupcakes, and even his eyes were glued to the colorful sprinkles dancing below. When it was all said and done, and the container had been sealed, we looked at the few remaining on the cooling rack. You could see everyone doing the math in their head, how many could each child have. It was simple since there were only 5 still standing. You could see the disappointment on their faces. It was pathetic really. So that is when I tore open a new box and began the whole process again. I mean, how can you have only one cupcake, there is just something sacreligious about that, don't you agree?

I love to bake!!! And your cupcakes are very pretty. Any time I think of cupcakes I think about my grandmother. There are just two grandkids (me and my cousin...both onlys) and she's always made our birthday cake. We're exactly two weeks apart so we have this big family birthday thing. Anyway, one year we said we wanted cupcakes and she said okay. Then on our birthday weekend she said that she didn't make any. We thought she was kidding and looked everywhere but found none. So, we went and bought cake mixes and made our own cupcakes. Then she laughed and then reminded us that she'd never not made our cake. We had about four dozen cupcakes...thankfully we have a big family! You can never go wrong with a dozen or so cupcakes with pretty icing and bright sprinkles!!!

What a great memory Steff! You seem to have a great family. The cupcakes hardly had time to cool at our house...lol.
