As most of you know from my last post that River is coming home. It is such a wonderful surprise that he said he was ready. It couldn't have came on a better day; Mother's Day. He was sick that morning, but he didn't hesitate to call me from his cell phone to wish me a good day. I was quite pleased to hear from him but I could hear sickness in his voice. It was his third time to be sick with the flu since he had been out there. I asked him if he was eating right, to which he laughed. This opened the discussion to how difficult it is to be out on your own.
After a couple more conversations we decided that he truly was ready to come home for good. He was thrilled and needless to say everyone was excited at this house. I think Boaz might have even giggled through a baby coo. We bought a ticket so that he could fly back home and this will put him home on Wednesday evening. Oh the hoopla that will commence!!
However, River and I have had some pretty good talks about life over the phone. He told me how good this experience was for him and I agreed. He needed to answer all the "what ifs' of his life. He needed to challenge himself and prove to himself who he thought he was. It gave him a new appreciation for our family and all that it offers. We have always had a really good relationship with River, but he was/is a young man trying to find his own path, and Mom and Dad's word wasn't enough at times. I understood that, and that is why Den and I worked so hard to help him set out on this journey, but there is nothing like the feeling of my oldest boy coming back home.
He will come home to a new baby brother that he only held and saw once after he was born; only hours old. He will drive down our long country driveway that he will be able to call his own. He will be rooming with Isaiah now in a large bedroom. He will have food at the plenty just by heading down to the fully stocked kitchen...lol. We will be able to resume back to our cups of hot coffee talking about God and life. He will have had a big experience to draw from for the rest of his life that will have altered his perspectives, and I am anxious to see and hear about all the growths in his young life.
Welcome Home River!

I am very happy that you get to enjoy the Return of your Son!
I completely understand the joy in seeing a child return home. I think this was a good experience too. The long drive here, a different largish church, buying your own food and answering to only yourself, has got to be markers of his adult life. However, who is it that tells us that 18 years old means they are truly ready to leave? 18 is still very young and parents are priceless in helping their children make their new starts in life.
I raise up a glass of apple juice, in an online toast, celebrating his return.
And if he's still contagious, you'll all get to share THAT little moment with him! LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist! That's so good that he's coming home. Now he's had a taste of what it is like out on your own, and when he does end up leaving, he will be more prepared. That will be very nice to have him back, not only will he see how much at home that he took for granted, but you will get to share all the little moments with him that you mentioned in your post.
I guess that if he's coming back, though, then probably the six sons in your dream truly were the six sons you have now, not another with River gone!
Sis: I clank my sticky, chipped, glass of apple juice with you on the return of my eldest too! hehehe
Neena: I sure hope the bug is long gone before his return...hahaha And when you questioned the vision of my six sons and maybe number seven would have to be born to complete it I giggled, cried and then giggled....LOL!
I'm so excited for all of you. It will be nice to have him home.
I know(as another Mother would) your cup runth over on Rivers return.

whoops didn't mean to put two comments like that sorry :)
I am so glad that he has decided to come home. And I bet those home cooked meals will taste even better. I think you have raised a fine young man.
I got a big lump in my throat when I heard he was coming home! Boaz needs his big brother!
It WILL be so great to have River back...I know how much you and the family have missed him.
It was good for him to have the true experience of this cruel, yet fun, yet scary, yet exciting, world. But even greater for him to come back..WELCOME HOME RIVER!!!
Oh I'm very heppy for you, I know it was sad seeing a child leave, I can only imagine. I'm a little sad that we didn't get to know him a little while he was here. Oh well, I'm sure it was a good experience for him :)
When you first posted that River was leaving it crushed me. I dread the day my chickens begin to spread their wings and fly away from home. I'm just happy for you that he is coming home!
River's return.
How poetic.
I'm so glad he's coming home.
I celebrate with you and rejoice with your mama's heart!

It will be good to have him home again. I look forward to hearing him singing in church again.
You made me cry....... What a joy his return must be!
You handled the situation so well.... well done Trina and Des!
yay! Exciting news and on Mom's Day! Savor having all the boys in one place...HUGS!
Congratulations, I bet you get to share some lovely visits now. What a big thing to have him back for a time, priceless.
What a sweet thing River's return says about you and Den. It's not often in this world anymore that children return home, they usually flee and don't look back. But when you train up your children to love the Lord home becomes the place they want to be.
When I heard River was coming hope my Momma's heart leapt for you! My own Son is moving out this summer and I'm trying to keep a strong heart about it all. I will miss his sweet bed-time kisses every night. But the hardest part is knowing how much his Sissy will miss him. Their laughter is the music in my home. Makes me wish I'd had more kids.. At least it won't be as far as Oklahoma! We've already set up a date for Wed. night dinner at home before church ;)
Aren't you going to post? You do have internet, right? Well, I also want you to read my blog. I'm about to write a post about commenting.
That's wonderful! My kids are still little but I'm enjoying them so much I really hope they stay living at home for as long as possible. Of course I haven't experienced teenagers yet!LOL
