Pig Day!

Today was PIG DAY! We used to raise pigs in Washington. The boys would take them to the fair, and we really enjoyed it. We have missed having animals since we moved back to Oregon and we are very thankful to have another opportunity to let the younger boys have the same experiences as the first three boys. This was Roman's first livestock moment. We have two kittens that he can't get enough of, but pigs are a whole other world.

There is nothing like the safety of big brother's arms. River held him over the pen, as Roman watched with wonder; not sure if he was going to get too close to the squealing masses.

Isn't this picture adorable? Here Roman is warming up to them and throwing clover leaves at the piglets. He would holler, "Caaatch!"

Abram wasn't a bit shy of the pigs. He was ready to coax them into letting him scratch their ears. It won't be long before these pigs warm up to the boys and look forward to seeing them each day.

Just outside the stalls is a hazelnut tree. It's pretty old, but it sure comes in handy for feeding pigs. The pigs were in HOG HEAVEN.....yes the pun is intended. It just comes naturally for me....hehehe

The gate has to stay locked so the pigs don't escape. We have some crazy memories of chasing pigs for hours in the past, and I'm not up to that anytime soon. Therefore, Roman quickly learned how to climb over the gate. He is such a little industrious daredevil....*sigh*

I took some amazingly handsome pictures of Abram while he was sitting on the same green gate. Seven is such a great age; independent, such a helper, and so loving!

After awhile we had to head back in to the house. As Roman was lingering up the walk I took this photo. It says it all, doesn't it?

I love the pictures!! It looks like the kids are really going to enjoy those pigs. I also have some memories of chasing pigs. I can see why you would prefer to avoid that fun.

Those are adorable pictures, but not because he's throwing clover at pigs. I think it is the whole hat, diaper, and rain boots. :)

Your photos are fabulous! I can just picture pig chases, brings back some wonderful memories. I can't say the pigs were my favorite livestock memory, neither were they my worst. I think it is wonderful for your boys to be able to have these times growing up. I envy you the hazelnut tree, we had one while growing up, quite a memory there too. I love the photo of big brother River and little brother Roman. I can say from experience,"what a blessing to have the kids grow up in the country".

I have a feeling that those pigs aren't going to be used for hams - are they? Hehe. I remember Bro. Sean and Sis. Marisela having pigs. It was kind of fun to go into the pen - but it sure did stink! As Kali just reminded me, the neighbor boy "thought he needed to call them his!" Animals are fun, even if they are pigs - but I wouldn't want to be chasing a pig for several hours either! It's bad enough chasing kids - children, I mean - for several hours! LOL. Just kidding (several minutes DOES feel like several hours sometimes, though!).

I love pigs. Wish it was me that got the pigs. Lol. I wish we could live in the country at this very time. I want to get a pot belly pig as soon as we move to the county. Wish it would be soon when we get to move to the county, we probably won't but I could move to the country maybe. Lol. Well got to go.
