Christmas time is such a special time of year for me. I have such amazing memories of the holidays when I was a little girl. Although my sister and I were the only two children in the house you would have thought from all the excitement there was six of us. Those traditions I have tried to hand down to my children. My mom used to wrap the presents with such care that I remember admiring how she would crease the corners at the end of each package, and then tape them inconspicuously. I found such a beauty in it that I find picking out the wrap, and carefully wrapping them brings me the same pleasure today as it must have brought my mom.
Shopping with all the red, green and "Merry Christmas" signs gets me in the holiday spirit without much trouble. There are even certain smells and tastes that conjure up all things Christmasy. It's funny to hear how long this season seems to last for my boys, but as for me, as I am gaining in years it goes by so fast that I try to stop and smell the eggnog along the busy way.
I want to be one of those people that savor and enjoy this holiday for all times. I know that some consider it commercialized, but I believe everything you do in life is what you make of it. If you feel the dread of such a holiday than dread is what it will be, but if you relish it, even the craziness of it all will be precious to you. I have chosen to relish it. I have chosen to listen to the holiday tunes every chance I get. I have made it a tradition to make the homemade almond roca, white powdery lemon bars, and Russian teacakes and let those aromas and memories burn imprints upon my children's memories. Then one day when I am old they will come for Christmas and have the nostalgia in their hearts with their own children.

I am so happy that you are back. Like you Christmas is for me our family, and home the happiest and most wonderful time of the year. I admire your zest and enthusiasm in embracing all the joys that the season has to offer.
YEAH!!! YOU POSTED!! My dad always made Christmas so much fun for us. I loved it when I was a kid. Our family has been through so much that for several years Christmas was more of a sad time for me but "tried" to put on a happy face for my kids. Now things are getting better and I can enjoy the holiday more. It is still not like it was but it is much better than it was.
Have a great time on your trip. Cant wait to get the update when you get back. I will have to email you a little trick we learned when we used to go there a lot.

yay! Look who's back! Missed ya! Like you, I love family/holiday traditions! I've already told Kevin that when we have little ones, I want us to read the real Christmas story every Christmas Eve.

We do have wonderful childhood Christmas holiday memories. I love the memory of Dad being so excited about the Big day and his walk down memory lane, of Christmas with the Bruners, when he was a child. He truly loved Christmas. And maybe, this is just me, but Elvis singing, "Blue Blue Christmas," strikes me of decorating the tree, with all the lights off. And now, we are making Martin memories.
Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. You are right if we aren't careful we get so stressed out that we don't enjoy it; and in turn our family doesn't enjoy it as well. I want to be one that relishes it all too and passes these wonderful memories down to my children. What a good reminder for me when Christmas is just a little over a week away and I have so much to do! We don't have all our presents bought yet! Ahh! I will not stress out, I will not stress out, I will not..... :)
Hi!! It is good to read your post. I am glad you are in the Christmas spirit. I have to admit mine is kind of dragging.
The power has been out for 5 days and I have no idea when it is coming back on. I am thankful we are safe and warm though.

Yes, Christmas is a wonderful holiday. I love Christmas! I love the holiday scents, the eggnog, etc... It is a busy time and a lot of people hate it because it is stressful with having to shop, but we LOVE it!
Nice Christmas tree. It's nice to have good memories. You'll be amazed at what kids pick up on and carry in their hearts.
I love Christmas!!! It is so much fun to decorate, make ginger bread houses, hanging stockings and singing Christmas tunes. One of these days I hope it slows down so we can enjoy the peace of it all. I am so looking forward to next year. Living out there... pray for us.......
