No SPAM Allowed!!

Lately, I have been plagued with "pop up windows". Not on my computer, but in my mind. You see a few years ago I read a book that described a woman's' mind beautifully. The description was well enough put that Den and I have never forgot the allegory, and often refer to it concerning my negative thoughts.

The author (please don't ask me what the book is because I have forgotten *sigh*) said that a woman will hear something that is negative, or that she may take negatively and she dwells on it. Not every moment of the day, non-stop, but as she is multi-tasking she will have that thought pop up, randomly. It is like the ugly pop up ads that we may get from time to time on computers. You are just minding your business, and all of a sudden a stupid ad will jump on to your screen, right in front of what you were looking at. Then you have to make an effort to stop whatever it was you were doing and close that window down. Some sites bring up more pop up windows than others too. Of course, I try to avoid those sites as much as possible. Therefore, the people that bring more pop up windows into my life I try to avoid as well. (Not that there are many, really.)

Anyway, that is how a woman's' mind works. I may be fixing lunch, while chatting with the boys, and then I hear the buzzer go off on the dryer, so I head into the laundry room and something triggers a "pop up window". That "pop up window" may present itself later, to me, in the car, unannounced, and then later when I am laying in my bed quietly waiting to drift off to sleep. It's frustrating!

So it's made me think about MY "pop up windows". Or maybe if I have triggered any "pop up windows" for other people. I sure hope that I don't bring up any negative ones for my fellow sisters. I believe that is why the Lord tells us to be careful with the things that we say to one another. Something that could seem harmless could turn into a "pop up window" for someone later.

Even though I am not fond of those word verification codes that we have to do on some blog sites, it got me to thinking; What if we didn't allow anyone to influence us until they had to do a word verification code of sorts, or maybe it would be called a spiritual verification code....lol. No SPAM allowed in to this mind today...........

It's hard, but many negative pop-ups have no positive side effect to them so we need to block them the best we can. My pop ups tend to be more to do type items that distract me when I am trying to get other things done.

I think my pop-ups are "to do" pop-ups too. I'll be in the bedroom making the bed and I'll think, "oh! I need to get(fill in the blank here)at the store. So off I'll go to the kitchen to write it down, where I'll promptly forget why in the world I went into the kitchen and then get busy doing something there. Then I'll remember later that I was in the bedroom making my bed! Now, this might, just might... be my age. But I really think what you are talking about here is "bringing every thought into the captivity of Christ" and I agree we cannot allow the adversary to bring his own pop-ups into our heads when we should have thought of love, joy, peace, grace and thanksgiving for all the Lord has done for us. Thank you for the nice little peeks into your brain, and sweetie, you affect all of us here on your blog with lovely thoughts continually! Love... Sis. Lori ;+)

Oh, this is so true. Sometimes I feel sorry for my husband because I let the 'SPAM' in and then he goes through and helps me delete it. LOL!

This was a great post! I agree with the girls above, i have a lot of to do pop ups that keep me busy all day long doing one thing after another. I sometimes get "mental" or "negative" pop ups. Like if someone looks at me weird i have to tell myself that they probably don't even realize they're doing it, rather than letting myself think that they think i'm weird or they don't like me.

Anywho, thanks for posting!

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes someone will say something completely innocent, but I will dwell on it or think of it again at a random time. As for people that cause or create negative pop-ups, I try to avoid them as much as possible and surround myself with positive people. It makes a huge difference! Good luck with your pop-ups but I think it is just a woman thing! ha!

That makes so much sense! I wish you could remember the book! ;-)

Every once in a while you get a day where the pop ups just come one after another, and you can never seem to get back to the original screen. Time to turn off the computer and let the inner workings reset. I'm really getting where you are coming from. I'm not really sure how to avoid them altogether though. Sigh.

Enjoyed the allegory!(correct spelling?) I would also like to know; how did your first party as room mother go?

What a great post! Oh I know exactly what you mean. :)

That is SO true. It's such a perfect analogy. Thanks for sharing, Trina.

As Skye said, how was your first room mother party? Or has it happened yet? I agree with the pop-ups post. It can be really frustrating. And really hard to get rid of those pop-ups sometimes, as if you can't find the "x" button, or any kind of a button to exit out of that screen. What are you supposed to do then? If you just go on to the next thing, then when you finally get off of that site, there is still that pop-up just awaiting you. Sigh. You explained it beautifully, though.

I feel so tired lately, and it seems as soon as I lay down to get some sleep, here come the pop ups! It's especially terrible in the mornings after Dale leaves and I rarely get to go back to sleep. That makes me very tired since we get up at 5:30!

Too bad you didn't make it to the singing. We would have enjoyed the addition of yours, Bro. Dennis', and the boys' voices. You all sing so beautifully.

Sometimes we can have positive pop-ups. Just lately I have been having one line from a song pop into my head all of the time. It is "I have been blessed". It is distracting but encouraging. I think The Lord is blessing me with the reminder. If we could just block the rest of that negative garbage. I think that I need to run a defragmenting program. Jeff does that on our computer when it starts running too slow. I wonder if it works on our brains?

UGH! I know what you mean! I do the SAME thing. I am a VERY bad person to start something, and then I "try" to multitask, and end up forgetting about one of the things I started to do, and so on... I think a lot of women are just like us :) HEHE

that's what happens to me when i clean i pick up some trash to put in the kitchen in the trash end up unloading the dishwasher. Also about negative pop up adds i think we need to think about what we allow in our mind through movies conversations what we read. I love that scripture whatsoever things are pure, lovely think on those things. Thanks for the great post

Oh, I so like this post! Very well said. I have pop-ups sometimes and wish I could be more like the men in my life. They all just have the attitude of "it's over, in the past" (even if it was just an hour ago) ;)
