"Chirp" "Chirp"

The box that they were shipped in, all 25 of them!
An exciting close-up!
Dad handing one off to Abram.
Boaz content to watch the chicken fray.

Well our animal tally is rising weekly, it seems. We decided to raise one breed of chickens, and Black Austrolorps won out. We purchased them online and they actually shipped via postal mail in 24 hours. They were only one day old, which is when they can ship them since they don't need to eat or anything at that stage of life. The postwoman who delivered them to our door said they came to the post office at 4:30am and hadn't stopped making a commotion since....lol

Everyone was excited to lift the lid and to see our little beauties. Roman was completely enthralled with them, but wouldn't touch them without declaring, "Ouch! Ouch!" To which we laughed since he was saying ouch from fear rather than pain. We placed Boaz in the Bumbo Seat and he loved watching and hearing all the craziness that those silly chickies brought into the house. Abram was very confident and was ready to take on the business of caretaker right away.

Since we have had them we have kept them in our dining room, in a box, with a light on them for heat. There is a constant state of chirping in the house that we have grown accustomed to. In fact, it is becoming so old hat by now that when the Verizon man showed up to fix our telephone lines on Saturday he stood at the top of the stairs and said, "What in the world do you have there?" To which we ho-hummed, "Oh...those are our baby Austrolorps." lol However, we then had to explain that we will keep in the house until they get their feathers and then they will go outside to the coop where they belong.

So this brings the animal total to:
1- Banty Rooster (Rocky)
1-Banty Hen (Henny)
1-Light Brown Rabbit (Cadbury) However he has managed to escape AGAIN!
2-Black Cats
5-Pigs
3-Calves
25-Austrolorp chicks for egg production next spring

I love chickens. My parents had chickens and I actually loved watcing them, they sometimes did the FUNNIEST things, like one of the hens was chasing my parent's cat all over. I bet they were all really cute :) Oh and by the wya, yes I DO love the new bloglist thing. It helps a lot, and saves me a lot of clicking time :)

So when do the zebras arrive? LOL. It looks (and sounds) like your boys are enjoying the new additions to the animal family. I'm sure that by the time those chicks are old enough to go outside, you'll be extremely happy. They can get pretty noisy and stinky! Looks like fun, though.

Oh how fun! We have a "country dream". I loved having the baby birds in the house, seemed so country. I bet the boys are loving it all too. Wish it were us, but since it isn't then I'm glad it's someone who will enjoy them as much.

Oh... Trina, girl you are going to want to move those chicks out of your house before too long! They will start smelling before too long and they have this fine dust from their. . . well, I dont' know what the fine dust is from, I'll leave that for your imagination. But we raise our in our utility room until they can go outside and by the time they are ready, I was ready about a month before that! This year I kept asking The Dad about our 8 chickies, "aren't they ready to go outside and play yet?" Maybe you have a small barn you can move them into soon? ;+) That being said, I LOVE our chickens and they make me feel so calm as they run around our backyard.

Sis. Lori: I agree that they can get QUITE smelly!! lol Therefore the boys have to change their box lining daily. And ohhhh they love this task and as you can imagine there has never been a complaint...ROFL! However, they will be hitting the hay very soon...(Pun intended!)
