Sleepless Nights

There is nothing like waking up to a beautiful smiling toddler in your bed, alongside of you. They are just delicious, innocent, and sweet. The sweet baby fat, in the softest color of flesh, is so irresistible to touch, even while I am groggy and exhausted. Even there breath is pure at this stage of the game.

Now if only it were this wonderful all the live long night. Roman wants to sleep so close to me that we end up sharing a pillow. Most of the time I just relinquish it to him, and I find something else to prop my head on. Often times I find myself wanting to roll over, but his sweaty sideways body is in the way, so I manage to stay on my designated little sliver of a bed.

Why does this little man still sleep with us? Well to be honest.......I would like to give him the proverbial boot, but somehow nothing seems to be working. He wakes up hysterical in the middle of the night wandering the hall crying out for us. We have put him back in his bed, only to endure non consolable crying and heaving for air that remind me of hiccups. At first, we wondered if he was being plagued with night terrors since it seems to be somewhat regular, but at this point I don't know.

He still gets up, crying out, when sleeping with us. He sits up, in our bed, hysterical and searching for one of us to cling to (mostly me.) Once I assure him that I am right there he drifts back off to sleep, however this ritual makes for an endless night of restless sleep.

I know we will have to do some serious bed weaning before this next one arrives in March. There are plenty of places for him to sleep if we could just get him to stay put, and sleep through the night. I must admit I haven't prayed very much concerning it, not until I am grumpy and dead dog tired in the middle of the night. However, that prayer is one of frustration, rather than one with a contrite heart and spirit, if ya know what I mean.....hehehe

So, even though, I am anxious to have him past this phase I also can love and appreciate the innocence of waking to his beautiful shining eyes in the morning. One of complete love and adoration for his mommy. It reminds me why I get up every morning and do what I do.

Ahhhh, that was sweet. We had the same problem with our son, now that he has his own room and a twin bed he seems to be doing much better - maybe it's just a phase?

Good luck.

We had the same problem with Corbin. I didn't want him in our bed either because Faith was on the way. If you didn't get to him in time you couldn't console him for almost an hour. It went on for close to a year. Finally it eased off. He has been really hard to break wetting the bed also. I think it is connected. I am not sure how. I'll remember you. They sure are sweet to wake up to.

Awww, he is so sweet. But I have never had a child do that. Lee is adament about our children sleeping in there own bed since birth. It is sad but my husband always wins. I will be praying for you in this and maybe he will be better by time the new bundle gets here. Your right about the nesting thing I will be ready to be settled for sure. See you soon, just keep praying Lee is still sick and having a hard time getting over this stuff.

I have a 5 week old daughter and she ends up sleeping in our bed most of the night. Do we await the same future as you???

You know I've been trying to type out a comment but it's just sounding a little bit snippy so I'll just stick with good luck with that!

Yikes! How do you get ANY sleep? ha! I am afraid I would be Momma Bear in the morning! Good luck ~ poor little guy!

Tiffany: Im glad Im not the only who has endured such things...lol

Sylvia: I sure hope it doesn't tie into bedwetting with Roman...Ugh!

Cherrie: Roman slept on his own from 5 months on(once I stopped nursing him), and did great. Slept wonderfully all night long in the closet, at first, here....LOL! It wasn't 'til we lived in this house for a month or two that everything changed.

Jennifer: I am sure you will be fine. At five weeks all my babies slept with us or near us. Roman is the only one, of five, that has given me a time of it at this age.

Steff: Snippy? You? hahaha You can give it to me straight...lol But I will take the good luck comment and run with it!

Lori: Sleep? HA! Actually I do fine on the amount I get, so far, but with another one coming I don't think I could manage two waking me through the night. This will have to be remedied soon.

There were a few times my kids would wake up in the middle of the night, but I usually made them sleep on the floor next to my bed. I have let the kids sleep in my bed at times when Sean is away, and it is nice to have a baby in the bed to wake up to from time to time.

Our 5 year old son crawls in our bed every morning (wee hours). Honestly, I love waking up to a sweaty little blond haired snoring cuddle ball! However trying to fall asleep with a little person in the bed; it just doesn't happen. The few nights he's been "scared" I've ended up on the sofa. I have no advice for ya... sorry. ~Karlie

Marisela: It is always nice when the hubby is away to have a baby in the bed, that's for sure!

Conservachick: He has no problem going to sleep, it's just STAYING that way through the night. Once we have this settled I will share the good news!!

Thinking to myself, that taking Wyatt out of his crib may mean having this problem too. A sweet, yummy, too cute problem. lol

Sis: Yeah he did GREAT in his crib. We may need to get serious about cracking down, but it is so horrible if you can see that they are REALLY scared. Poor baby!

Hi! I've been enjoying your blog for awhile now, but I think this is my first time to comment?

I just wanted to say that I have faced the same problem, and I feel for you! When my dd was a toddler, she had night terrors and would wake up every night crying. She was inconsolable and even combative at times. After spending many nights sitting up with her, and still having to get up in the morning (for her big brother), we decided to do whatever we had to do to get some rest. We actually put her bed in our bedroom beside our bed. It wasn't the most convenient thing for US, but it worked and we were able to get some rest. When she was about 3 1/2 or 4, and I was expecting our 3rd, we finally were able to reason with her and get her to sleep in her own bedroom.

I don't know how old your ds is, but another option might be to fix him a pallat in the floor beside your bed. We've done that, too, when the kids want to come in during the night but they are too big to fit in the bed with us. LOL.

Anyways, just thought I'd share and let you know that you're not alone!

Sincerely,

Bev.

Bev: Thank you so much for the great advice. I will pass it along to my hubby and we will definitely be mulling it over. Thanks again for the comment!
