My Little Biker Dudes!

I had to make Abram stay still so I could take a picture of him. My camera is very particular about action shots (pathetic really).
Roman wondering why I was stopping him.

Roman looking down the road at Abram after I was warning about cars.

A little shot from my eye level while I walked alongside him.

Boys on bikes! What fun! If nothing else it is good exercise for me to be running after Roman, dragging his trike back up on the sidewalk, and jogging behind Abram to see this neat nifty new way he can turn a corner now.

Abram has finally been able to learn how to ride a bike. When we lived up on the mountain there was no place for him to learn to ride, so we just let the bike sit in the shop and gather dust. I had dragged it out a time or two, brought it in to town, stood in a parking lot and tried to inspire Abram, but he saw no point. Besides, falling down on pavement all afternoon quickly made the bike lose its appeal. He didn't care that I used every childhood reference I could muster about the importance of mastering this ability. "Who cares?" was the definite attitude I got from him when I talked about the rights of passage in boyhood.

However, that is one thing that we decided needed to be mastered now that we were back in the city. So the old bike tires were fixed, and the bike was brought back to life. I bought him a new bike helmet, and some neato sunglasses to help with the whole "Biker Dude" image. It seemed to work, because the very first day he planted his behind on that seat he was off and and pedaling. Yahooo!

So now Abram takes a bike ride everyday, and I normally go out and watch. Roman, too, is in on the action, toting along on Abram's old tricycle. The two of them are bombing all over the cul-de-sac. I'm sure the neighbors are getting a kick out of me running up and down the street chanting, "Watch out for cars! Watch out for cars!" Hopefully, they know I am talking to Abram, although most of the time he is far enough way from me that it could look like I'm schizophrenic. Hey a house of five boys could drive you crazy, right?

Hey before you leave go check out a new Wednesday Blogging idea and contest. It's called
Wednesday Wash Wisdom. I placed my little tiny pearl of wisdom on her comments today.

Trent was that way about learning to ride a bike, too. First day! It took no time at all for him to learn. Meanwhile, Bethany took a long time (I don't even remember how long it was) to learn. It probably didn't help to know that her younger brother knew how right off the bat, while she'd already been trying to learn for (how long??)! Do you think it's just another male distinction? I remember how long it took me! Well, maybe not how long per say, but I do remember learning! It was horrible!
