Our Weekend Getaway

Den, Rusty and I all planned a surprise 30th birthday getaway for Mary. After many weeks of waiting and planning, it had FINALLY arrived:

Friday morning we were to meet with Rusty and Mary, by the bakery, in our small town. Each of us had last minute details to wrap up with all our children, since none of them were going with us. You see, we normally have to take 8 kids, between the four of us adults, which means we have to take separate vehicles too. Not this trip though, we were traveling foot loose and fancy free, in one rig.

Once our children were all set, and were pushing us out the door with all the reassurances a parent wants to hear, we were out of there. We hung around the espresso/bakery shop while waiting for Rusty and Mary to pull up. Before we knew it, they had arrived, they even managed to borrow a pretty cool vehicle for our little excursion. I, being the silly girl that I am, opened the bakery door when I saw them, and gleefully jumped up and down to demonstrate my excitement...hehehe We were going to have a GOOD time, and it didn't matter what we had planned, or where we were going, it was childless and with great friends! Woohooo! (Now you know I LOVE my boys, but an overnight excursion without them, had been five years coming.)

Mary was in the dark about our weekend agenda, and it took a LOT for me to keep my mouth closed about our big plans! Nevertheless, I did, and I am still waiting for my "gold star" that the guys failed to give me. We were staying in Seattle at the Westin Hotel, we had dinner reservations at the swankiest place in town, and then we had tickets waiting for us at the Repertory Theatre. We got all dressed up, and hailed a taxi cab to begin our adventure for the four of us. It was exciting!!

After the evening was over, and we parted ways to our hotel rooms, I was shocked by the quietness of our room. No boys packed in like sardines to stumble over, or to share all the little details with, and Den and I ACTUALLY slept in later than Rusty and Mary that morning. It was the most delicious feeling I have had in a very LONG time!

The next day we went shopping at the mall, and of course IKEA...(hence my IKEA blinkie in my sidebar). However, it wasn't what we did with our time, but how we enjoyed it. I feel so blessed to have such good friends. Having no children with us, really gave me a different feel for our relationship with them. We have always enjoyed them, and we go out on evening dates frequently with them, but a whole weekend of just bumming around was light, airy, and relaxed. We went where we wanted, when we wanted, and everyone had a wonderful time. Honestly, when I think back on our getaway, my heart feels warm. It makes me feel so grateful on many many levels.

Once home again, it was wonderful to see our five sons relaxed in our home. Roman met us at the back door, saying in his deep baby voice, "Hiiiiiiiiii." I giggled and whisked up his little body and said,"Hi" back. We said hi to one another for a good five minutes (that's all he can say as of yet.....hehehe). The boys did a phenomenal job with each other, and the house was actually cleaner than when I left it. Life is gooooooooooooood, and we won't be waiting for another five years to have an overnight getaway again!

That sounds like so much fun. We enjoy a date that lasts over night from time to time. It is really good to take a break and spend some one on one time with our spouse. With all the kids and activities sometimes you need a night out to catch up with each other. Glad you guys had a great time. It must have been the weekend to go away since your sis went away too. Why didnt any tell me it was the weekend to go? LOL

Trina first of all I love how your baby said hi for 5 minutes. Got to love that.

And sleeping in with no kids sounds so delicious. I want to sleep in again when I grow up. I try to take a simple nap and it is close to impossible.

Here's hoping that getting away becomes maybe a yearly event.

I'm the last to know things from friends...I can't keep secrets either! I'm sure she enjoyed the weekend and time alone with grown up friends just as much as you did. What great friends you and your husband are!

Also, will you please vote for me (shameless I know, but vote all the same...pretty please!). Follow the link and I'm in Game 4.

What fun. I love Seattle and I love going to Renton and visiting IKEA - it's a 3 1/2 hour drive from my side of WA.

Good friends...time alone...time to be grown ups....time back with those wonderful children...all of it priceless.
